What Is the WR55X26529 GE Refrigerator Main Control Board Replacement?
The WR55X26529 is the genuine OEM main control board for GE bottom-freezer refrigerators, the French-door and two-door bottom-mount range sold under the GE, GE Profile, Cafe and Monogram badges. Mounted behind a small panel on the lower back of the refrigerator, it decides when the compressor runs, drives the fans and the defrost cycle, holds the set temperature in the fresh food and freezer sections, and handles ice production and the interior lighting. FailSafe Certified and backed by a 1-year warranty from Appliance Pro USA.
Settle the number question first. GE created WR55X26529 as its own service number for this board, then retired it and put WR55X46805 in its place. A board bought under the old number therefore turns up stamped with the newer one, and that is correct rather than a substitution somebody made at the warehouse. The retail references AP7245825 and PS17875680 both belong to WR55X46805 as well.
What Does the WR55X26529 Fix on a GE Refrigerator?
If your GE bottom-freezer refrigerator shows any of these symptoms, the main control board is the most likely cause:
- Milk going warm on the top shelf while the freezer underneath still holds
- Both sections drifting up together, with food starting to thaw in the freezer
- Compressor running around the clock and never shutting off
- Ice maker quit and the dispenser gives you neither ice nor water
- Ice sheeting over the freezer's back wall because defrost stopped running
- Touchpad on the door ignoring you, or the interior lights staying dark
These symptoms point to the main control board as the most likely cause - but refrigerators are complex systems, and the same symptoms can occasionally stem from a thermistor, door switch, wiring harness, or compressor issue. If a technician has identified the control board, or you've ruled out those components yourself, this board is your fix. When in doubt, contact us before you order - we're happy to walk you through some troubleshooting, and a photo of your board is usually all we need. A diagnosis from a local appliance technician works too.
How Do I Know If This Is the Right Board for My Refrigerator?
Go by the number printed on the board itself rather than the model number on the refrigerator. Unplug it, walk it away from the wall, and lift off the small access panel low on the back. A white or silver sticker sits on the board, and either WR55X26529 or WR55X46805 on that sticker means this is your part.
Send us a photo of your board and its sticker before you order and we'll verify it for free - same business day.

Genuine OEM - FailSafe Certified™ Reconditioned
Every WR55X26529 board from Appliance Pro USA is a genuine OEM GE board restored to reliable working condition through the FailSafe Precision Protocol™, our 4-step recertification process built around what actually fails on this board:
-
Failure Pattern Analysis - We've mapped the failure signatures specific to this board, identifying which components degrade and fail over time.
-
Targeted Component Replacement - The components this board is known to lose are replaced before they get the chance to fail.
-
Proactive Rebuild Standard - Known high-failure components are replaced with new parts on every board, regardless of whether they show a problem yet. Degraded parts don't ship.
-
Final Certification - Every board is tested and certified to our internal FailSafe Precision Protocol standard for function and lifespan before it ships.
Key Features
- Genuine OEM GE main control board - not an aftermarket copy
- Known failure-prone components replaced with new parts before shipping
- One repair puts cooling, defrost, fan control and ice production back in service
- Minor cosmetic wear may be present due to prior installation - it does not affect performance
Board Type and Function
This is the main control board, the part that decides when the compressor, the fans and the defrost heater get power. It watches the temperature sensors in both sections, calls for cooling and for defrost on its own schedule, runs the ice maker and the interior lighting, and on the models we have worked on it passes messages to the display and dispenser on the door. When several unrelated functions quit in the same week, test this board.
Common GE Refrigerator Error Codes
If your GE refrigerator is displaying an error code, the table below describes what it typically indicates. Codes marked ★ are most directly associated with main control board failure. Always verify the exact meaning in your model's owner's manual before ordering any part.
| Code |
What It Means |
| ★ HRS |
Main control board failure — system crashed or stuck in defrost. Most severe GE error |
| ★ CC |
Cooling / compressor circuit fault — board cannot communicate with compressor |
| ★ EC / E0 |
Communication error between main control board and user interface |
| ★ E4 / Er |
Defrost system error or temperature sensor fault — board-controlled cycle |
| FF |
Freezer fan failure or freezer temperature too high for 2+ hours |
| dE / DF |
Defrost system not operating properly in last 24 hours (dE) or no defrost circuit current in 48 hours (DF) |
| E2 / E3 |
Evaporator fan (E2) or condenser fan (E3) communication error |
| CI |
Ice maker fault — check for jammed ice, water supply, or ice maker assembly issue |
| PF |
Power failure detected — press System Check button to clear. Not a board fault |
| tC / tF |
Turbo Cool / Turbo Freeze active — normal function modes, not error codes |
Error code definitions vary by GE (Profile, Café, standard) model series. Always confirm the exact meaning in your refrigerator's owner's manual before purchasing any part.
★ = Most directly associated with main control board failure
How to Install a GE Refrigerator Main Control Board
Plan on 15 to 30 minutes and an ordinary nut driver and screwdriver. Start by pulling the plug, then move the refrigerator away from the wall until you can work behind it, and take the small access cover off down at the bottom. With every connector still seated, photograph the board; that picture is what makes reassembly quick. Ground yourself on the bare metal frame first. Unclip each connector by its latch instead of pulling on the wires, swap the board over, then put the connectors back exactly as your picture shows and refit the cover before the plug goes anywhere near the outlet. Food is normally fine during a typical install, but we highly recommend moving it to a cooler with ice as a precaution. Expect several hours for the sections to pull back down to temperature, and give the ice maker longer still before you judge that side of the repair.
Shipping
Every board is physically in stock - no backorders, no drop shipping. Orders placed before 4:00 PM EST ship the same business day. Tracking provided on every order.
Warranty
Backed by a 1-year warranty from Appliance Pro USA (registration required - the card is in the box). If the board fails due to a defect within the warranty period, we'll repair or replace it at no charge (shipping fees may apply). Warranty coverage is determined at Appliance Pro USA's discretion. Boards that have been tampered with, or with our verification stickers or holograms removed or damaged, are not eligible for warranty coverage. Damage caused by improper installation, electrical surges, or physical damage is not covered.
Returns
Returns accepted within 30 days of purchase. Items must be returned in original condition. All returns may be subject to deductions for original and return shipping fees. Restocking and retesting fees may apply to opened or installed boards - these fees are waived for exchanges, though reshipping costs and any price difference between products will apply. Boards returned with physical damage, missing components, missing or damaged hologram stickers, or signs of improper installation may not be eligible for a full refund.
Important Installation Notes
This is not a universal control board - it is a direct replacement for the part number printed on your original board. Boards that look identical can be programmed differently, so always match the number on the sticker.
Your replacement should look like the board you remove: same size, same connector layout, same mounting points. If what arrives does not match, stop before you install it and contact us with a photo of the board you took out with all of its stickers along with a photo of the one that arrived. We will confirm which board your refrigerator takes before anything goes in.
Some models may require a firmware update after installation; firmware updates and configuration changes should be performed by a qualified technician. Any board that has been flashed, reprogrammed, or had its firmware altered is not eligible for return or warranty coverage.
