What Is the WR55X25146 GE Refrigerator Main Control Board Replacement?
The WR55X25146 is the genuine OEM main control board for GE French-door refrigerators, the bottom-freezer range sold under GE, GE Profile, Cafe and Monogram badges. It sits behind a small access panel low on the back of the refrigerator and runs the whole cooling side: the compressor, both fans, the defrost cycle, the temperature in the fresh food and freezer sections, and the ice and water side. FailSafe Certified and backed by a 1-year warranty from Appliance Pro USA.
One thing to know before you order. WR55X25146 is a GE service number, and GE has since folded it into WR55X46805, so a new board bought against the old number arrives marked with the new one. That is the correct part, not a substitution error. AP7245825 and PS17875680 are the retail reference numbers carried on that current number.
What Does the WR55X25146 Fix on a GE Refrigerator?
If your GE French-door refrigerator shows any of these symptoms, the main control board is the most likely cause:
- Fresh food side warm while the freezer still makes ice, or both sections warm together
- Thick frost on the back wall of the freezer from a defrost cycle that stopped running
- Ice maker stopped and the water dispenser gives nothing
- Interior lights dead while the refrigerator still hums
- Compressor or fans never starting, or running without ever cycling off
- Nothing at all after a power cut or a surge, with a live outlet at the wall
These symptoms point to the main control board as the most likely cause - but refrigerators are complex systems, and the same symptoms can occasionally stem from a thermistor, door switch, wiring harness, or compressor issue. If a technician has identified the control board, or you've ruled out those components yourself, this board is your fix. When in doubt, contact us before you order - we're happy to walk you through some troubleshooting, and a photo of your board is usually all we need. A diagnosis from a local appliance technician works too.
How Do I Know If This Is the Right Board for My Refrigerator?
Match the number on your original board, not just the refrigerator's model number. Unplug the refrigerator, pull it forward, and take off the small access panel low on the back. The white sticker on the board is the answer. WR55X25146 or WR55X46805 both mean this is your board, and some boards on this service line carry a longer 197D production code on the same sticker.
Send us a photo of your board and its sticker before you order and we'll verify it for free - same business day.

Genuine OEM - FailSafe Certified™ Reconditioned
Every WR55X25146 board from Appliance Pro USA is a genuine OEM GE board restored to reliable working condition through the FailSafe Precision Protocol™, our 4-step recertification process built around what actually fails on this board:
-
Failure Pattern Analysis - We've mapped the failure signatures specific to this board, identifying which components degrade and fail over time.
-
Targeted Component Replacement - The components this board is known to lose are replaced before they get the chance to fail.
-
Proactive Rebuild Standard - Known high-failure components are replaced with new parts on every board, regardless of whether they show a problem yet. Degraded parts don't ship.
-
Final Certification - Every board is tested and certified to our internal FailSafe Precision Protocol standard for function and lifespan before it ships.
Key Features
- Genuine OEM GE main control board - not an aftermarket copy
- Known failure-prone components replaced with new parts before shipping
- Brings back cooling, defrost, fan control and the ice and water side in one repair
- Minor cosmetic wear may be present due to prior installation - it does not affect performance
Board Type and Function
This is the main control board, the part that tells the compressor, the fans and the defrost heater when to run. It reads the temperature sensors in both sections, decides when to cool and when to defrost, drives the interior lighting, and talks to the dispenser and display on the door. Because so much of the refrigerator answers to this one board, several unrelated functions quitting at the same time is the pattern that points here rather than at any single component.
Do These GE Refrigerators Show Error Codes?
Many refrigerators this board fits have a display in the dispenser or on the door, so a code can appear. There is no fault-code table that belongs to this board, though. GE assigns code meanings by model series, not by part number, so the same two letters can mean different things on two refrigerators that share this board. Treat a code as a place to start testing rather than an answer, and check the meaning of any code in your owner's manual before ordering any part, since code definitions vary by model series.
How to Install a GE Refrigerator Main Control Board
Most people finish this install in 15 to 30 minutes with basic hand tools. Unplug the refrigerator and walk it out far enough to stand behind it, then take off the small access panel low on the back. Photograph the board with every plug still connected before you disconnect anything - that photo makes reassembly simple. Touch the metal frame first to discharge static. Release each plug by its latch, lift the old board off, fit the new one, reconnect from your photo, and put the panel back before you plug in. Food is normally fine during a typical install, but we highly recommend moving it to a cooler with ice as a precaution - Appliance Pro USA is not responsible for lost or spoiled food. Give the refrigerator several hours to come back down to temperature, and up to a day for the ice maker to fill a bin, before you judge the repair.
Shipping
Every board is physically in stock - no backorders, no drop shipping. Orders placed before 4:00 PM EST ship the same business day. Tracking provided on every order.
Warranty
Backed by a 1-year warranty from Appliance Pro USA (registration required - the card is in the box). If the board fails due to a defect within the warranty period, we'll repair or replace it at no charge (shipping fees may apply). Warranty coverage is determined at Appliance Pro USA's discretion. Boards that have been tampered with, or with our verification stickers or holograms removed or damaged, are not eligible for warranty coverage. Damage caused by improper installation, electrical surges, or physical damage is not covered.
Returns
Returns accepted within 30 days of purchase. Items must be returned in original condition. All returns may be subject to deductions for original and return shipping fees. Restocking and retesting fees may apply to opened or installed boards - these fees are waived for exchanges, though reshipping costs and any price difference between products will apply. Boards returned with physical damage, missing components, missing or damaged hologram stickers, or signs of improper installation may not be eligible for a full refund.
Important Installation Notes
This is not a universal control board - it is a direct replacement for the part number printed on your original board. Boards that look identical can be programmed differently, so always match the number on the sticker.
Your replacement should look like the board you remove: same size, same connector layout, same mounting points. If what arrives does not match, stop before you install it and email us a photo of the board you took out with all of its stickers along with a photo of the one that arrived. We will confirm which board your refrigerator takes before anything goes in.
Some models may require a firmware update after installation; firmware updates and configuration changes should be performed by a qualified technician. Any board that has been flashed, reprogrammed, or had its firmware altered is not eligible for return or warranty coverage.
Installation is performed at your own risk. By installing this part yourself you assume all risk of the repair, and Appliance Pro USA is not responsible for damage to your appliance or property, lost or spoiled food, or injury occurring during or after installation. If you are not comfortable working around electrical components, have a qualified technician install this part. If there is ever an issue with the part itself, your remedy is repair, replacement, or refund under our warranty and return policies.
Even if you end up calling a pro, knowing your part number and symptoms before the tech arrives usually shortens the visit and the bill.
