WR55X25146 GE French-Door Refrigerator Control Board: WR55X46805 Cross-Reference, Symptoms and Install Guide
Fridge warm on top, frost packing the freezer, or the ice maker and dispenser both silent? Which number GE ships today, which models take it, five checks before you order, and the swap itself.
The WR55X25146 main control board runs a GE French-door refrigerator: the compressor, both fans, the defrost cycle, the interior lights and the ice and water side. If the fresh food section is warm while the freezer holds, frost is building on the back wall of the freezer, or the dispenser and ice maker have gone quiet together, this is the board behind it once the cheaper parts check out. WR55X25146 is a GE service number, and GE now supplies the same board as WR55X46805. Send us a photo of your board sticker if you want it confirmed first.
Even if you end up calling a tech, these checks mean you can tell them exactly what you found, which usually shortens the visit and the bill.
WR55X25146 or WR55X46805: Which Number Do You Order Today?
WR55X25146 is the GE service number printed on this refrigerator main control board. GE has replaced that number with WR55X46805. Order the current number and match your own sticker.
GE stocked this board as WR55X25146 for years, and that is still the number on a lot of stickers out in service. GE has since retired it. Order WR55X25146 anywhere today and a board marked WR55X46805 is what arrives, because GE pulled a long run of separate WR55X main boards onto that one current number. If you are pricing a new one, WR55X46805 is the number to search. Either way, hold your old sticker beside whatever arrives and read it through before you open anything.
This is not a universal board. It is a direct replacement for the part number printed on your original board. Boards that look identical may be programmed differently, so match your sticker first.
| Number on the board | WR55X25146, a GE service number, printed on the white sticker. It is the number GE stocked this board under |
| Replaced by | WR55X46805. GE supersedes WR55X25146 to this number, and that is the board GE supplies today |
| Board type | Main control board for GE French-door, bottom-freezer refrigerators. It runs cooling, defrost, both fans, the interior lights and the ice and water side |
| Cross references | AP7245825 and PS17875680. Both are carried on the current WR55X46805 number rather than on WR55X25146 itself |
| Numbers on the same service board | GE folded around a hundred WR55X main boards onto WR55X46805 together, WR55X25146 among them, alongside WR55X24777, WR55X25195, WR55X26529, WR55X27068, WR55X28074, WR55X30806 and WR55X38248. A sticker reading any of those lands on the same current part |
| Production codes | Some boards on this service line carry a longer 197D production code on the same sticker alongside the WR number. The WR number is the one to shop by |
| One limit worth knowing | GE supplies this board as an authorized service part for models charged with a flammable refrigerant such as R600a. Changing the board never opens the sealed system, and anything that does belongs to a qualified technician |
| Availability | GE no longer supplies WR55X25146 new; a new order comes as WR55X46805. Appliance Pro USA holds the WR55X25146 itself in stock |
| APU status | FailSafe Certified, 1-year warranty (registration required), same-day shipping on orders placed before 4 PM EST |

Not listed? Run your model through the check above and use its buttons; a missing model is not the same as incompatible.
Wherever it fits, the board sits in the same place: behind a small access panel low on the back of the refrigerator.
This model list is for reference only. GE may change boards between production runs, so two refrigerators with the same model number can use different boards. Always order by the part number printed on your original board, it is the only identifier that decides. This board turns up across the CFE28, CFE29, CWE23, CYE22, CYE23, DFE28, DFE29, GFD28, GFE26, GFE27, GFE28, GFE29, GNE26, GNE29, GWE23, GYE22, PFD28, PFE27, PFE28, PFE29, PFH28, PWE23, PYD22, PYE22, PYE23 and ZWE23 prefixes, so any model starting with those is worth checking.
GE Fridge Warm and the Ice Maker Dead: Is It the WR55X25146?
The WR55X25146 runs cooling, defrost, both fans and the ice and water side. When several of those quit at once, the board they share is the suspect. Clear the sensors, defrost parts, fans and door switches first.
Unplug the refrigerator before any panel comes off. These are the complaints that land people on this board.
- Fresh food side warm while the freezer below still holds
- Both sections drifting warm together and the compressor never cycling
- Frost packed on the back wall of the freezer, defrost cycle stopped
- Ice maker dead and the water dispenser giving nothing
- Interior lights out while the refrigerator is still running
- Refrigerator dead after a storm or an outage, with a live outlet
Many of these refrigerators carry a display on the door or in the dispenser, so you may have a code to work from. GE assigns code meanings by model series rather than by part number, so treat a code as a place to start testing and check what it means in your owner's manual.
Let's verify it is the board by checking the common parts that contribute to these failures. They are inexpensive, easy to check, and ruling them out means you order once, with confidence.
The number on the white sticker decides the order, and on this GE range it is a WR55X number rather than a production code. Read it in place, before any packaging is opened.
The thermistors tell the board how cold each section is. When one drifts, shorts or opens, the board acts on a bad reading and cools the wrong section, which is not the board's fault. They are cheap and they fail often, so they go first.
The board decides when defrost runs. It does not do the heating. That job needs a heater passing current, a thermostat closing when it is cold enough and a fuse that has not opened. Lose any one and the back wall of the freezer packs with ice while the fresh food side warms up.
The evaporator fan pushes cold air up into the fresh food section on this layout, so a seized one leaves a frozen freezer over a warm fridge. The condenser fan at the back carries the heat away, and when it stops the compressor runs all day and gets hot.
On a French-door refrigerator the door switches tell the board the doors are shut, and a stuck switch can leave the lights dead and the ice maker parked. As far as we have seen, when the dispenser and the display go dark on a refrigerator that is still holding temperature, the dispenser control is the likelier suspect.
Even if a dragging fan turns out to be today's culprit, it has been working the board hard for months. Keep a spare on the shelf and a warm fridge becomes a fifteen-minute swap instead of a week of coolers.
How Do You Replace the WR55X25146 on a GE French-Door Refrigerator?
The WR55X25146 sits behind a small access panel low on the back of the refrigerator. Most installs take 15 to 30 minutes with basic hand tools.
Pull the plug at the wall and walk the refrigerator out far enough to stand square behind it, which on a counter-depth refrigerator built into a tight surround is the slow part of the job. The access panel is low on the back and comes off with a few screws. Photograph the board with every plug still on it, touch the metal frame to discharge static, then release each plug by its latch instead of pulling on the wires. Lift the old board out, set the new one in the same way round holding it by the edges, and put every plug back on the header it came off in your photo.
Fitted the WR55X25146 and the Fridge Is Still Warm: What Now?
A new WR55X25146 that changes nothing usually means the original fault is still in the refrigerator. Work through the plugs, the sensors and the door switches before you judge the board.
A board that does not match yours
Work from the photo you took. Header positions, plug count and mounting points should line up with the board you removed. If they do not, stop: a board that looks materially different usually means the wrong part is in hand.
Every plug back on the header it came off
The connectors on this board are close in size and keying, and a plug sitting one position across behaves exactly like a board that never woke up.
Go back to the thermistors
A sensor stuck open or short hands the new board the same bad reading it gave the old one. A good board looks faulty when what feeds it is wrong.
Give the ice side a full day
Cooling comes back within hours, but the ice maker has to reach temperature, fill and cycle before it drops anything. An empty bin the same evening proves nothing.
Still stuck?
Give the refrigerator several hours at a normal setting, then contact our team before you return anything.
What Shortens the Life of a GE Refrigerator Control Board?
Surges, trapped heat and stray water are what end a GE refrigerator main control board. Three checks while the panel is off protect your new WR55X25146.
While you are back there, three quick checks help your new board live a long life.
- Put the refrigerator on surge protection. Lightning, a utility fault or a generator changeover sends a spike straight through the board, and a run of short outages is harder on it than one long one. A surge protector rated for a large appliance is cheap insurance.
- Clear the condenser coil and the fan. A coil packed with dust and pet hair makes the compressor and the condenser fan run longer and hotter, and the board back there runs hot with them. Vacuum the coil and the fan shroud while the back panel is off.
- Look for water where it should not be. A blocked defrost drain or a weeping water line puts moisture into the same corner as the board, and the staining shows up before the failure does. Wipe it dry, find where it came from, and check the door seals while you are at it.
Which Parts Are Worth Doing While the Refrigerator Is Pulled Out?
The panels that expose the WR55X25146 expose several other parts worth a look. Changing a tired one today saves pulling the refrigerator out a second time.

What Do Customers Ask Before Ordering a WR55X25146?
These answers cover the WR55X46805 supersession and what to do when the board that arrives does not match. They also cover where the board sits, the warm-fridge split, and what to do when your model is not listed.
Is WR55X46805 the same board as the WR55X25146 I have?
Yes. GE has superseded WR55X25146 to WR55X46805, so a new order placed against the old number is filled with the new one. It is the same job in the same place, and GE moved a whole run of earlier WR55X main boards onto that current number at the same time. Match the sticker on your own board and you are ordering correctly either way.
The board I received does not look like my old one. Did I get the wrong part?
Possibly, and it is worth checking before you install it. Your replacement should match the board you removed in size, connector layout and mounting points. Compare it against the photo you took, and if it does not line up, email us a photo of the board you removed with all of its stickers along with a photo of the one that arrived. We will confirm the right part before anything goes in.
Which panel do I take off to get at this board?
The small access panel low on the back of the refrigerator, not anything inside the food compartments. Unplug the refrigerator and walk it out far enough to stand behind it first. Nothing inside the fresh food or freezer section has to come out to reach the board.
My fridge is warm but the freezer is fine. Would this board cause that?
It can, and it is one of the most common reasons people land here. Before you order, check the evaporator fan behind the rear freezer panel and the fresh food thermistor, because either one alone produces exactly that split. If both are good, the board is your leading suspect.
The dispenser and the interior lights are dead but the food is still cold. Is it this board?
Probably not, and check 5 above covers what to look at first. The pattern that points back at this board is the lights, the cooling and the ice all stopping together, not the dispenser going dark on its own.
Does anything need setting up on the board before it will run?
It goes in as a straight swap. We have not run into a jumper or a setup routine on a standard replacement for this board. Some models may require a firmware update after installation, and firmware changes should be performed by a qualified technician. Any board that has been flashed, reprogrammed, or had its firmware altered is not eligible for return or warranty coverage.
My model is not on your list. Does that mean this board will not fit?
A model missing from a list does not mean the board will not fit. What settles it is the number on your own board. Read the sticker on the board itself, and if it has worn past reading, use the free check above and we will confirm it for you.
